Red Devils Win a Tight One in Season Opener Against Rensselaer

The West Lafayette 7th Grade girls opened their season with a trip to Rensselaer. A close first half saw the Red Devils up 12-10 at halftime. After falling behind in the third quarter and clawing back in the fourth, West Side was down two with seconds remaining when Meredith Andrew was fouled and sent to the line. She calmly knocked down both free throws and sent the game to over time. Rafaela Moreno came up clutch in overtime, burying two mid range jumpers. Andrew found herself on the line again late and once again hit two, providing the final margin in a 24-22 victory. Defensively, the Red Devils forced many turnovers on the night with 7 steals from Isla St. Hilaire, 8 by Andrew and 5 from Warden Torres. Andrew lead all scorers with 14 points and added 9 rebounds. St. Hilaire grabbed 7 rebounds. West Side starts with a 1-0 record.
