In their first home game of the season, the Red Devils came up short in their hard-fought battle against Southwestern. After a slow start to the game in the first quarter, the Devils fought back and won the second making the score 6-8 at the half. Tough defense and post entry passes kept the Devils neck and neck with Southwestern through the end of the 3rd quarter. Missed shots and the tough Southwestern defense led to their ultimate loss. Leading scorer was St. Hilaire with 11 points for the night. The West Lafayette B team won their season opener against Southwestern with a score of 26-13. The team was able to stay in control of the ball and hit several open layups. Rebounding and solid defense ultimately sealed the victory. Mukuru was the team's leading scorer with 16 points.
