10/6/25 JV Scarlet vs North Newton Location: North Newton Time: 6:00pm Final Score: 40-14 (West Lafayette) The Red Devils traveled to North Newton to take on the Spartans. After receiving the opening kickoff, running back Connor Peters capped off a steady drive with a defining touchdown run within only two minutes elapsing. The Red Devils would go on to score another touchdown in this opening quarter, when quarterback Chase Ostrom faked a handoff and then swiftly ran by all the Spartan defenders. The Red Devils led 12-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Red Devil defense had to adjust this week, with linebacker Haylen Vazquez sidelined with an injury. Tripp Seyfert and Cameron Kudelka made some big plays as they monitored the middle of the defense. The Red Devil defensive line applied relentless pressure to the North Newton backfield throughout the game, causing many erroneous passes and leading to a number of tackles for loss. With just around 3 minutes left in the first half, the entire defensive line, led by Zach Cuttell, sacked the Spartan quarterback for a huge loss. Several plays later, linebacker Braylon Crisp intercepted a pass. The Red Devil secondary maintained steady coverage for most of the game, making it difficult for North Newton to gain much momentum. With only a few minutes remaining in the first half, the Red Devil offensive line provided protection for Ostrom to put together a final drive before halftime. Ostrom hit Jack Grove with multiple passes, and ultimately capped off the drive with Grove making an impressive catch in the end zone. The Red Devils stepped off the field at the half with a 18-8 lead. The Red Devil defense started off on the field following the halftime, and Ira Dobson quickly made one of his many tackles for loss. Cornerback Luke Tolen forced the Spartan quarterback out of bounds on the following play, ultimately leading to a Red Devil takeaway. As the quarter progressed, the Spartans were able to score another touchdown, closing the Red Devil lead to 18-14. Ostrom got right back to work, as he and Crisp connected for a huge gain. Receiver Duke Elias made multiple downfield blocks, allowing for big plays to become even bigger. After the long gain by Crisp, Peters finished off the drive with another touchdown run up the middle. The Red Devil defense played strong for the remainder of the game. Linebacker Alan Salazar made some key tackles, and Seyfert’s instincts in the middle led to many defensive stops. The Red Devil defensive line (Ira Dobson, Jayson Haverstick, Blaine Myles, Zach Cuttell, Max Barash, Elijah Martin, Connor Owens) made multiple big plays and a number of tackles for loss. The Red Devils would seal the game with a 99 yard touchdown pass from Ostrom to Crisp. The 40-14 final score was the 4th consecutive win for the Red Devils. This was a dominant win, and the team is showing how effective they can be with great teamwork.
