Junior High Cross Country Wins Conference

The Junior High cross country defended its conference titles on Saturday at Benton Central. The boys team finished in first place (of 5 teams) with a team score of 28 points. Max Rodriguez is the conference individual champion with a time of 10:34. Elijah Pierce came in 4th place, earning a 7 second PR and good enough for a tie for 45th place on the boys school record list. Alexander Burgess (5th), Cain Martens (8th), Frank Peyton (10th), Joseph Zhang (12th) and Jacob So (13th) rounded out the varsity team for the boys. For the JV boys, Albert Jin ran a 45 second PR while Ben Chen improved by 39 seconds and Matthew Sinfield improved by 33 seconds. The girls team also won conference with a team score of 28 points. Maddie Clampitt-Morales led the way with a 3rd place finish and a time of 11:59. This time was good enough for Maddie to now be 33rd on the top 50 school girls list. Emmy Gustus came in 4th with a time of 12:35. Jillian Hanna (6th), Ava Thompson (7th), Vera Lundgren (8th), Ady Waggoner-McClain (9th), and Serena Liu (11th) rounded out the varsity seven. Jillian ran a personal best by 21 seconds and Ava by 15 seconds. For the JV girls, Calla Gawthrop ran over a minute faster than her previous best. Sanu Bandaranayake improved by 37 seconds and Aadhira Chandran ran a new PR by 36 seconds.
