Junior High Cross Country Sweeps Maverick Stampede

The boys and girls Junior High cross country teams started the season strong with 1st place finishes at the Maverick Stampede 3K event over the weekend. The boys finished in 1st place of 13 teams with a team score of 37 points. Max Rodriguez led the way with a first place finish and a time of 10:42.50. Joshua Ciocoi made a strong debut, finishing in 3rd place with a time of 10:59.77. Max tied his PR from last year and Josh's time was placed him in 45th place on the top 50 boys record list for the school. Other notable finishes included Colton Kippenbrock (14:56.15) - who ran over 8 minutes faster than his time trial time, as well as Azaan Ali (16:07.47) and Saatvik Kambli (17:52.38) who both ran over 4 minutes faster than the practice race a week earlier. The girls team finished in first place out of 12 teams with a team score of 67 points, narrowing defeating Battleground by two points. The girls were led the way by a 5th place finish by Emmy Gustus - who gave a strong performance of 12:24.88 despite not feeling well. Maddie Clampitt-Morales, Jillian Hannah, Ava Thompson, and Ady Waggoner-McClain rounded out the top five. Jillian set a new PR by 1 minute and 34 seconds. Serena Liu had a strong debut race with a time of 14:00.24, which was over two minutes faster than her time trial race. Kritika Gupta, Evalyn Chen, and Cathy Meng showed considerable improvement, each running nearly 4 minutes faster than their practice race.
