The 7th grade Red Devils Volleyball Team faced off against the Southwestern Wildcats in their season/home opener last night. Westside A team took set one 25-22 behind solid serving from Enqi Gan, Arabella Combs, and Shaeah Vogt. The Red Devil attack was in full force with multiple kills by Vogt, Evelyn Stahelin, and Kerrigan Kitchel. Gan led the charge in the second set, with 5 points to give Westside the early lead. However, the Wildcats stormed back and took the second set 25-11, forcing a third and final set. Set 3 was a race to 15 points, where the Red Devils, led by Vogt, squeaked out the 15-14 win thanks in part to her 4 service aces early in the set. The Red Devils powered through with timely hustle plays and solid team defense, giving RDP their first win of the season. Westside B team dropped set one 25-17 due to solid serving from Southwestern. Jamilla Manning and Lauren Flesher gave the Devils a boost offensively but couldn’t close the gap. Thanks to Mikaella Hunley rattling off 7 straight points in the second set, it gave WL a 15-9 lead. The Wildcats couldn’t close the gap and the Red Devils tied the match 25-20 in set two. A poised Jamilla Manning pushed WL ahead 10-5 with her solid serving, in the third set. A few untimely errors by Southwestern gave Westside the opening they needed to come away with the 15-9 win! Both teams played great! They will travel to Twin Lakes tomorrow, August 28th for their first game on the road!
