West Lafayette and Benton Central were both undefeated going into the game last night. The Red Devils started out slowly and timidly, losing the first set 19-25. However, they didn't let the initial loss keep them down. They entered into the second set with the third set in mind. They completely transformed the atmosphere of the competition, energetically and aggressively winning the second set 25-13. The third set was a mini representation of the first two games. BC was off to a strong start, racking up five quick points on the Red Devils. However, the girls fought back and took the game with a final score of 15-9. Coach White was so proud of how they did not give up, but came back swinging. Coach White thought that the setters, Lucía Warden Torres and Janice Stahelin, really had a good game last night. Almost all plays run through them, and they handled the ball strategically and consistently to set the others up for success. Two other players that impacted the game positively were Rowynn Asay and Nolla Furry. Asay stepped in as outside hitter, and Furry stepped in as a server, serving 11/11. Bella Garringer also served a perfect game last night (8/8), three of which were aces. Garringer had three digs. Meredith Andrew lit up the stats sheet with four aces, seven digs, and six kills. Tabitha Alexander was a crucial component of the victory as well, contributing six kills, two aces, and a block! Finally, Danni Brown contributed four kills and six digs to the team's success. The B team mixed things up last night due to losing Furry to the A team game. The coaches were very proud of Laurel Smith who had a great game. She stepped up as the setter last night, directing the team and bringing energy to the court. Smith had seven aces last night. Marley DeWees and Isla St. Hilaire each had three kills last night. St. Hilaire and Aamna Khan both served two aces. The B team ending up losing both sets 18-25 and 23-25. The A team is undefeated, ending their regular season 11-0. The B team had a great season, ending the season 8-1. The coaches have enjoyed the season and getting to know this fun group of talented competitors. Last event on the agenda - the WCJC tournament this Saturday at Tecumseh starting at 9am. Wish your team luck, or better yet, come out and see them play!
