7th Grade Boys Red Devils take second place in the Covington Tournament

West Lafayette drew Bismark, Illinois in the opening game of the tournament. A fast start lead to a 11-6 score after one quarter. Bismark responded in the second to close the margin to 14-12 at half time. The Red Devils defense proved the difference in the game giving up only 5 points in the second half to win by a final of 36-17. Mason Wright led all scorers with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Chase Zhou pitched in with 8 points and numerous steals while Max Smosna had 6 rebounds. The team improved to a 3-1 record on the year. In the championship game, the Red Devils faced off against Southmont. Despite big runs by the Mounties in the first half, West Lafayette was able to respond and only trailed 27-24 at the half. Alvin Ajayi had 6 first half points. Southmont was able to stretch the lead in second half for a final of 48-32. Karam Abu Sara had 4 rebounds and 7 points. Mason Wright finished with 8 points and 2 assists. The team moved to a 3-2 record overall.
