Adrianne Tolen’s driving layup as time expired gave West Lafayette girls basketball a thrilling 37-35 win over Northwestern at Berberian Gymnasium on Nov. 8. It was a classic knockdown, drag-out affair that featured eight lead changes, three ties and neither team leading by more than six points. The Red Devils, who improved to 3-0 on the season, led 15-13 at halftime. Tolen led the way with a game-high 18 points, four rebounds, three assists and four steals in playing all 32 minutes. Sarah Werth and Kennedy Martin scored nine and eight points, respectively, while Annie Karlaftis pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Martin also had four assists and two steals while defending the Tigers’ top scorer, McKenna Layden, who is heading to Purdue. Both teams pulled down 33 rebounds. The Red Devils limited Northwestern to 28% shooting from the field and forced 20 turnovers.
