7th & 8th Grade vs Rensselaer

The Red Devils took on the Rensselaer Bombers on Thursday night. The 7th grade came out of the gates quick with Mason Wright scoring on the first offensive play of the game on a long TD Run. Following the long run, Max Smosna connected with Chase Ostrom for the 2-pt conversion. The Red Devils didn't slow down their with Mason Wright adding 2 receiving touchdowns thrown by QB Max Smosna. The 7th grade was successful on one of the two 2-point conversions with Alvin Ajayi rushing it in on the right side. The scoring continued in the second half with Mason Wright returning an interception for a touchdown and a Colton Evans touchdown reception thrown by QB Max Smosna. The 7th grade defense also came out and played aggressive finishing off their first shutout of the season. Playing well on the defensive side of the ball were LB Ellis Furry and DE Ira Dobson shutting down the Bomber rushing attack. The 7th grade will take on Central Catholic next Thursday night at home. At the conclusion of the 7th grade game, the 8th grade team took the field to continue their season. The game didn't get off to a great start with an early safety and the defense giving up a touchdown on a long standing drive. The Red Devils continued to fight and put in 1 rushing TD by Kojo Steffey on a very determined rush on 4th down from the 3 yard line. The 8th grade was trailing at the break 10-6. The 2nd half was a different game with defense coming out and stopping the Bomber rushing game. Forcing an earlier turnover on downs, led by the defensive line in Henry Umulis, Josiah Lewis, Tyrel Lawson, and Ryan Ritchie, the Red Devils offense took the field and were able to score quickly in the 2nd half to take the lead on another Kojo Steffey rushing TD. The 2 point conversion was successful with QB Blake Biddle connecting with Fielder Melchi. With his 3rd touchdown of the game, Kojo Steffey was able to extend the Red Devils lead to 20-10. The defense was able to hold strong in the 2nd half and shutdown the Bomber offense, forcing a total of 3 turnovers through the game. These came by Josiah Lewis with a fumble recovery and interceptions by Cody Boyle and Jonah Mittrione. The 8th grade will pick up play following the 7th grade next Thursday at home against Central Catholic.
