The West Lafayette Boys Swim & Dive Team closed out the 2023-24 swim season this week at the 2024 IHSAA Diving Regionals on Tuesday and the Boys State Championship on Friday and Saturday. Representing West Lafayette in the championships were Senior Captain Brendan Twomey and junior Lucas Arnaldo. Twomey, who qualified for regionals after placing 2nd in Sectionals last week, who competed in one of the toughest regionals in the state placed 13th in Tuesday's competition. Arnaldo, who earned two individual event bids at last week's Sectional Championship, competed in the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Breaststroke. Arnaldo competed in the preliminary rounds on Friday night, finishing the 200 IM in 17th place, narrowly missing a spot in the Saturday finals rounds. However, Arnaldo sprung back into action later in the meet, earning a spot in the Championship Final of the 100 Breaststroke with an 8th place finish and a time of 57.03, lowering his personal record in the event by .04 seconds. In Saturday's Championship Final heats, Arnaldo again lowered his personal best mark, touching the wall in 56.84 to official finish in 7th place, earning a medal and a place on the podium for the first time as an individual Congratulations to Brendan, Lucas and all of our Red Devils on a fantastic season!
