West Lafayette Jr-Sr High School

The West Lafayette Boys Swimming & Diving team celebrated strong performances at the 2024 Hoosier Conference Championships, earning the 3rd place spot on the scoreboard at the conclusion of the meet. The Red Devils were in close pursuit of the runner up position, behind Western and Hamilton Heights for most of the day, ultimately taking 3rd place but only 10 points out from 2nd. West Lafayette was led in scoring by Junior Lucas Arnaldo, who was individual event champion in both the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Breaststroke. In addition to his individual event performances, Arnaldo swam on the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Freestyle Relay, which both took 2nd place, earning a total of 57 points toward WL’s overall score total. Additionally, the Red Devils boasted three more athletes scoring above 40 points each: Zheng-Chi Lee (SR) with 48 points (200 Medley Relay, 50 Free, 100 Free, 400 Freestyle Relay), Ethan Zhang (SO) with 47 points (200 Medley Relay, 200 IM, 500 Freestyle, 400 Freestyle Relay) and Senior Captain Ben Mariner with 45 points (200 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle Relay, 400 Freestyle Relay). Across the board the boys team put in impressive swim after impressive swim, earning 17 new lifetime bests and five athletes earning Top 8 recognition for the first time.
