WEST LAFAYETTE, IN — West Lafayette High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Blake Boarman as its new Head Wrestling Coach. Boarman brings an impressive competitive background, extensive collegiate wrestling experience, and a strong record of academic achievement to the Red Devils wrestling program. A graduate of Mater Dei High School, Boarman returns to Indiana after competing at both the NCAA Division I level and in the Big Ten Conference. During his high school career, he established himself as one of Indiana's top wrestlers, compiling an outstanding 146-9 record and finishing among the top three at the state championships in all four years. In 2020, he captured the Indiana state championship at 138 pounds. Boarman continued his wrestling career at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he competed for four seasons and compiled a 47-19 overall record, including a 26-5 mark in dual competition. During the 2024-25 season, he earned his first NCAA Championships berth after finishing as the Southern Conference runner-up at 133 pounds. He entered the NCAA Championships as the No. 20 seed and finished the season ranked No. 20 in the NCAA RPI and No. 22 in the Coaches Poll. Boarman transferred to Purdue University as a graduate student for the 2025-26 season and immediately became an important part of the Boilermakers' lineup. Wrestling at 133 pounds, he started all 16 of Purdue's dual matches and finished the season with a 12-17 record, including an 8-8 mark in dual competition. His lone season in West Lafayette included one of the most significant victories of Purdue's season. At the Big Ten Championships, Boarman defeated No. 1-ranked Lucas Byrd, the undefeated defending national champion, by a 7-3 decision in the quarterfinals. The victory ended Byrd's 29-match winning streak and helped secure Boarman's place on the Big Ten podium and a return trip to the NCAA Championships. In addition to his accomplishments on the mat, Boarman has demonstrated a commitment to academics. He was named an NWCA Scholar All-American at Purdue and was a two-time Dean's List and AD Honor Roll student at Chattanooga. Boarman's return to Indiana brings his wrestling journey full circle. After winning a state championship at Mater Dei and competing collegiately at Chattanooga and Purdue, he will now have the opportunity to develop the next generation of wrestlers in the West Lafayette community.
