10/19/26 West Lafayette (JV) Vs. Hamilton Heights Location: West Lafayette Time: 6:00pm Final Score: 42-34 (Hamilton Heights) The West Lafayette Red Devils faced off against a fierce Hamilton Heights team in the final junior varsity game of the season. Despite being significantly outnumbered, the Red Devils fought hard and put points on the board, and made a strong comeback in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, the Red Devils ran out of time, and fell to the Huskies 42-34. The Red Devils fell behind early as the Huskies scored their first touchdown 2 ½ minutes into the game. Once the Red Devil offense took the field, Keegan Slifer connected with his familiar targets (Luke Tolen, DJ Moore, and Ben Haverstick), and evened the score. Ben Haverstick later intercepted a Hamilton Heights’ pass, giving the Red Devils great field position. Several plays later, Slifer raced into the end zone for a 22 yard touchdown run. Dru Budzynski added to the West Lafayette score with an impressive 56 yard run into the end zone, as well as a 24 yard touchdown run. DJ Moore also contributed to the Red Devil total after catching a screen pass and racing 44 yards for another West Lafayette score. The Red Devils made some big plays defensively. Jackson Winger disrupted a Hamilton Heights two point conversion attempt, Elijah Martin knocked a pass out of the air, and Blaine Myles made multiple tackles for loss. The Red Devil defense continued to swarm the ball carriers, and there were a number of team tackles made by the West Lafayette defense. The Red Devil special teams also made some key plays. Zach Cuttell secured a Hamilton Heights onside kick attempt, DJ Moore returned a kickoff putting the offense in great field position, and Duke Elias made some key tackles. Although their final game at Gordon Straley Field was not a victory, the West Lafayette junior varsity team demonstrated great teamwork, determination, and perseverance throughout the season. It will be exciting to see this crew grow and develop, as they are the future of West Lafayette Red Devil football. RDP!!!
