9/25/26 West Lafayette Red Devils Vs. Twin Lakes Indians Location: Twin Lakes Time: 7:00pm Final Score: 42-21 (West Lafayette) The Red Devils traveled to Twin Lakes this past Friday, and secured its first win of the season over an undefeated opponent. West Lafayette received the ball first, and from the very beginning had the Indians on their heels. On the second play of the game, Blake Biddle pitched the ball to Tanner McPherson, who then launched it down the field to a wide open Jack Grove. Just a few plays later and only a minute and a half into the game, the Red Devils scored on a pass from Biddle to Andrew Pfeiffer. Gio Pacheco would then convert the first of his six extra points. The Red Devil offense made some adjustments without its senior leader, Kojo Steffey. Jack Grove and Chase Zhou exchanged repetitions at the running back role, and between the two of them scored three touchdowns. Biddle connected with Fielder Melchi for a long pitch and catch for another touchdown, and Biddle also threw a perfectly placed ball to McPherson who also got into the end zone. The offensive line (Ryan Ritchie, Levi Martin, Ellis Furry, Cal Elias, and Ryan Budzyinski) protected Biddle throughout the evening, and made holes for the running attack. The Red Devil defense came out with a new look, as well. Elias moved back to the defensive line, and Mason Ersland, Alan Salazar, and Chase Ostrom got settled in the middle of the defense. Continuous pressure from Ira Dobson, Levi Martin, and Elias forced the Indians into many uncomfortable positions. Caleb Landess and Gio Pacheco batted down passing attempts, and the Red Devil secondary was quick to tackle and disrupt the Twin Lakes ball carriers. Ostrom anticipated a Twin Lakes pass, stepped in front of the receiver and secured a crucial interception for the Red Devils. This momentum shift fueled the Devils in the 2nd half. DJ Moore stepped into a new role, as well, and lined up on the edge of the defensive line. His speed and instincts could not be stopped, and this contagious energy ignited the Red Devil fighting spirit to finish the game. The Red Devil special teams was on the field often Friday night, as well, and played a vital role in the game’s outcome. In addition to Pacheco’s perfect extra points, Wyatt Asay and Max Smosna made important tackles on kickoffs, halting the Twin Lakes returners. The Devils played well in all aspects of the game, and will use this momentum to carry them throughout the remainder of the season.
