Location: McCutcheon HS Time: 7:00pm Final Score: 17-14 (McCutcheon) The Red Devils and Mavericks battled back and forth in a defensive showdown between these two teams. Unfortunately, the Red Devils were unable to secure the victory, leaving them 0-2 to start the season. The Red Devils did have some bright moments this past Friday evening, as sophomore running back, Jack Grove, managed most of the running attack. Grove scored his first varsity touchdown, igniting the West Lafayette crowd early on in the game. Quarterback, Blake Biddle, scored the only other touchdown for the Red Devils, with both of these scores occurring in the 1st half. The Red Devil defense fought to minimize the Maverick gains, which they did for most of the contest. Defensive lineman, Tyrel Lawson, recorded a sack on a crucial third down, and Levi Martin punished the Maverick offensive line all night. Kojo Steffey recovered a fumble, and the West Lafayette secondary disrupted much of the Maverick passing attack. After a late Maverick field goal, the Red Devils had just under a minute remaining in the game with no time outs. Biddle put together a series of quick passes, however, time expired ending the game in a 17-14 loss. The Red Devils will begin preparing immediately for the next game against Lebanon, which will take place on Thursday night at Gordon Straley Field.
