After falling 0-2 just 7 minutes into the game, the Red Devils stormed back to beat the Bombers 8-2 and secure a berth in the sectional championship match. A defensive blunder less than a minute into the match gave Rensselaer a confident start that they would ride through the first 7 minutes of the match, netting a second goal in the seventh minute. Despite going down, the Red Devils never backed down and starting the scoring barrage 12 minutes in. Anna Lasater scored, thanks to an assist from Malavika Sujith who sliced her way up the left sideline. In the 22nd minute, Lasater sent a ball into the box and chaos ensued, the Rensselaer keeper made an initial save, but Vivian Huston was there to put it away and tie the game at 2. With 3 minutes left in the half, it was Huston again, this time intercepting the Rensselaer goal kick and taking it straight to goal. Just minutes later, Sarah Werth played a great ball to Malavika Sujith who caught the Rensselaer keeper out of position and cushioned the red devil lead at 4-2. The second half started with a bang, with a Malavika Sujith goal from the top of the 18. With the red devil offense controlling the second half, Abby Jiminez did great work to win a ball back just outside the 18 which she laid off for Lasater’s second goal of the night. Just seconds later it was Sujith again this time off of the assist from Werth. With a 7-2 lead, west Lafayette would find one more opportunity to get on the scoreboard. With 8 minutes to play, Sujith served up a beautiful corner kick that found Anna Lasater for the 8th west Lafayette goal. When all was said and done, the Red Devils walked away with the victory and earn the chance to defend their sectional title. Malavika Sujith and Anna Lasater both had hat tricks and Vivian Huston chipped in the brace. Sujith and Werth each pitched in 2 assists, Lasater and Jiminez each with 1. The Red Devils head to Kankakee Valley one last time, this time to face the Kougars on their home field. West Lafayette looks to continue the sectional win streak and earn a trip to the regional semifinal.
