8/24/26 West Lafayette (JV) Vs. Harrison Location: Harrison Time: 6:00pm Final Score: 30-28 (West Lafayette) The Red Devil junior varsity team got some redemption Monday night against a strong Harrison Raider opponent. The Red Devils showed impressive perseverance and toughness throughout the game, and ultimately came up with a remarkable victory in what may be the final football contest against Harrison. Although the Raiders scored first and moved the ball easily early on, the Red Devil defense got settled in, made some adjustments, and took advantage of opportunities. Cornerback, Duke Elias, made a big hit in the first quarter, forcing a Raider fumble, with safety Max Smosna recovering for the Red Devils inside the red zone. Smosna, who also managed the quarterback role at the start of the game, connected inadvertently with Ben Haverstick for the first touchdown for the Red Devils. On the ensuing kickoff by Keegan Slifer, the Red Devils recovered the ball and put themselves in great field position. Chase Ostrom managed the Red Devil offense at this point, and connected with Mason Ersland for a crucial first down on 3rd and long, moving the ball into the red zone. Ostrom wasted no time connecting with DJ Moore in the corner of the endzone for another Red Devil touchdown. The Red Devil defense was relentless throughout the game. Defensive lineman, Ellis Furry, made a huge tackle for a loss, sparking some great momentum for the West Lafayette team. Multiple Red Devils stepped up and made significant contributions to the team. Ben Haverstick continued putting himself in the right place at the right time offensively, scoring three of the Red Devil touchdowns. Jack Grove and Chase Zhou managed most of the running attack for the Red Devils, which opened up great opportunities for the offense to produce. The Red Devil offensive line protected Smosna and Ostrom throughout the game, and the ultimate victory was a complete team effort. Great start to the season! Keep up the great effort!
