With tonight’s 9-0 victory over Twin Lakes, West Lafayette advances to the sectional semifinals to face Rensselaer. Senior Sarah Werth set the pace for the red Devil offense with the hat track. Werth got the goal scoring started in the seventh minute when she got on the end of a beautiful through ball by Anna Lasater. The twin lakes keeper made the initial save, but Werth hammered the rebound home. Lasater again got things going, next with an Assist to junior Malavika Sujith. Just minutes later, Lauren Pedley played a great ball to Sujith who thought she had the goal, Sarah Werth left nothing up to chance and put it in the back of the net for her second goal of the night. Junior left back Dylan Kastens would get in on the fun next, scoring in the 18th minute. The 4-0 score would hold until the half. In the second half it was Werth again who got the scoring started, earning the hat trick thanks to a beautifully crossed ball by Kastens. In no time at all, Dani Rawles crossed the ball through the box which Abby Jiminez laid off beautifully for the Malavika Sujith brace. Senior forward Lauren Pedley was next to score to put WL up 7-0. Goal number 8 came from a Kastens cross played to Pedley who tapped the ball to Lauren Kovich for the finish. With just 4 minutes of regulation remaining, sophomore Amy Schminke’s first varsity goal would stop the clock early and finalize the WL victory. The Red Devils return to Kankakee Valley Thursday night to face Rensselaer at 8 pm for a chance to play in the sectional final on Saturday.
