On Thursday night the West Lafayette 7th Grade A team battled against the Wea 7th Grade A team. Despite not having many fouls being called, the game was very physical. However, there may have been a world record set with jump balls. West Lafayette stayed physically and mentally tough to pull out the 30-22 win. Ryne Emke and Kendall Williamson led West Lafayette in scoring, each contributing 9 points with Parker Strode following close behind with 7. Williamson scored 7 of his 9 points late in the 4th quarter to give West Lafayette the boost to pull off the win. West Lafayette also limited their turnovers during the game. The Red Devil's good ball handling was especially apparent during the final minutes of the game when Wea ramped up their defense while trying to mount their comeback. West Lafayette again out-rebounded their opponent. Williamson and Jack Strode led the rebounding effort with 6 boards a piece. J. Strode and Ben Feldmeyer also had some big blocks throughout the game. It must also be noted that Connor Hollingsworth, Niko Harris, Jaxton Hysong, Hank Andrew and Brayson Gaeta provided big minutes coming off the bench and playing solid defense against an offensively talented Wea team. This game truly emphasized the importance of a full team effort. West Lafayette B team stays undefeated picking up a 37–19 win over Wea Ridge behind a balanced offensive effort and strong defensive pressure. Ian Gilbert led the team with 9 points and 5 assists, while Evan Follis nailed two 3’s and added 8 points. David Vanderweilen chipped in 6 points and a team-high 4 steals. Auggie Chang scored 6, and Kohen Morlan anchored the paint with 7 rebounds and 2 steals. The Red Devils racked up 10 steals overall, using their defense to control the game and secure the victory. West Lafayette goes back on the road Tuesday at Wainwright.
