Basketball (Boys 8) vs. Wea Ridge

West Lafayette A Team bounced back from a slow start to earn a strong 50–31 win over Wea Ridge in 8th-grade basketball action. The Red Devils fell behind early as Wea Ridge opened the game on a 6–0 run, but West Lafayette quickly settled in. By the end of the first quarter, they had surged ahead 14–12 and never looked back. The second quarter belonged entirely to West Lafayette. With intensified defensive pressure and efficient ball movement, they outscored Wea Ridge 13–2 in the frame, taking a 27–14 lead into halftime. West Lafayette’s balanced scoring attack was on full display, with four of the five starters finishing in double figures. Liam Archer led the way with 13 points and a standout six steals, setting the tone on both ends. Ben Haverstick came out firing, scoring the team’s first seven points and closing with 12 points. Keegan Slifer recorded his first triple-double of the season, posting 11 points, 10 assists, and 10 steals, dominating the game on both ends of the floor. Sammy Kyburz added a steady 10 points, helping keep the offense rolling. By the fourth quarter, West Lafayette’s defensive pressure and depth sealed the outcome, securing the 50–31 victory. With four starters in double digits and a milestone triple-double, it was a complete team effort and an impressive win for West Lafayette’s 8th-grade squad. In the B Team matchup, West Lafayette battled hard but ultimately fell to Wea Ridge, 32–24. Despite the loss, the Red Devils showed strong individual performances and stretches of excellent defensive intensity. Sunny Pol led the way for West Lafayette with a career-best 9 points, attacking the rim with confidence and providing consistent offense throughout the game. Joseph Purpura followed closely with 7 points, giving the team a much-needed spark during the second half. On the defensive end, Trey Hammac was everywhere, collecting five steals and adding 4 points of his own. His ball pressure helped keep West Lafayette within striking distance as the game tightened late. Although West Lafayette couldn’t close the gap in the final minutes, the team showed growth, energy, and promising performances that will carry into the next matchup.
