Despite a late rally, West Lafayette 8th Grade Boys A ended their season with a 42-39 loss to Tecumseh in the first game of the 8th Grade City Tournament.
In an morning tournament game, the 8th Grade boys started slow and struggled offensively against Tecumseh. The Red Devils failed to protect the ball and missed far too many layups to be successful in a “win and advance” game. Despite being down by 7 at half, the Bronchos lead went to 10 points by the end of the 3rd quarter. The Red Devils turned to Jackson Fry in the 4th quarter and he was able to get to the rim scoring 6 points as well as dishing out several key assists as RDP scored 17 Points in the 4th quarter. The Red Devils were down 3 points in the last minute of the game but were unable to get a defensive rebound off a one and one free throw two times in the last minute. Fry scored 15 points to lead the Red Devils in scoring. Carson Kitchel and Niko Roumbakis each had 7 points, Cooper Kitchel had 6, and Donovan Loudermill had 4 points to complete the scoring for West Side. Similar to other losses this year, RDPs cold shooting and missing point blank layups were major factors in the loss.
In the second game, West Lafayette 8th Grade B lost to Tecumseh 8th B, 34-21. Coach Jeff Schmierer and the Red Devils used a packed in 1-2-2 zone to slow down the Bronchos for most of the game, but struggled at times to rebound and score against the Tecumseh defense. Mason Follis led the Red Devils with 7 points, Freddie Cason and Camden Proctor each had 5 points, and Albert Rajwa and Karsten Sandberg each had 2 points in the loss.
