3A West Lafayette Football defeated 5A McCutcheon Football at Ellison Stadium last Friday night by a score of 34-20. A light drizzle fell while WL and McCutcheon went up and down the field trading scores in the first half. WL held a 20-14 lead at halftime. The sky cleared in the second half and the 4th quarter belonged to WL for the second straight week. A strip sack and fumble by McCutcheon led to a one play scoring drive to tie the game up at 20-20 heading into the 4th quarter. The WL offense took over and scored two TD’s to pull away. The offense was led by QB Kyle Adams who finished 26/34 for 301 yards and 3 TD’s. WR Harrison Truitt had a big night with 10 catches for 119 yards. Adams found Truitt over the middle for eight 3rd down conversions on the night. The play of the game was a 4th and goal from the 17 yard line. Adams hit WR Kyle Hazell with a strike over the middle for the TD. WL never looked back. The WL defense was stingy, especially in the 2nd half. McCutcheon was able to put together a 15 play 80 yard scoring drive in the first half. The other two scores came with McCutcheon having short fields to punch it into the end zone. DE George Karlaftis blocked an XP, while brother and LB Yanni Karlaftis had a punt block. The Red Devils return to action this Friday at 3A Hamilton Heights. Game time is 7:30P.
