West Lafayette baseball scored three first-inning runs and went on to defeat Covington 10-4 on April 23 at Bob Friend Field.
Juniors Corey Adams and Andrew Fredette both collected two of the Red Devils’ nine hits, while Fredette, seniors Colin Martin and Joey Siciliano and freshman Jack Shaeffer had two RBI apiece. Adams scored three runs.
As the starting pitcher, Fredette worked the first 4.2 innings, allowing just two hits with six strikeouts. Freshman Andrew Von Werder worked out a bases-loaded jam in the sixth with a double-play to protect West Lafayette’s 6-4 lead.
On April 19, the Red Devils hosted Central Catholic at sparkling new Loeb Stadium in Lafayette and dropped a 2-0 pitchers’ duel. Adams was brilliant on the mound, scattering five hits with seven strikeouts over 6.2 innings.
Siciliano had two hits, and Nate Brown blasted a two-run homer at Central Catholic on April 20.
For the season, Siciliano tops the team with a .500 batting average, two home runs and 16 RBI. Fredette is batting .317, followed by Martin at .303. Martin and senior Sam Schott have 10 and seven RBI, respectively.
The Red Devils host North Montgomery on Monday before returning to Hoosier Conference play with games at Benton Central on Tuesday and at home against the Bison on Wednesday.
