Despite a strong start in each half, West Side fell on the road to Western 54-46 Friday evening. A 7-0 run by the home Panthers at the start of the 4th quarter was the turning point as the Devils could not get back into the game. Western’s Kyle Sanders led all scorers with 28 points on 5-7 shooting from three-point range. West Lafayette was led by Yanni Karlaftis’ 16 points and 7 rebounds, while senior Will Lasater added 12 points and 7 rebounds.
Back at home Saturday, the Red Devils used a big 4th quarter surge to bounce Class A, No.5 Covington 69-58. It was a balanced attack for the home team, led by Yanni Karlaftis with 24 points and 21 rebounds. Will Lasater added 13, Tyler Boyle 11, Braeden Shrewsberry 10, and Colin Martin had 9.
It’s another doubleheader for the Devils this weekend as they host conference foe Rensselaer on Friday night, and city rival Harrison on Saturday night.
